Saturday January 19, 2013 brought a night of Jazz, Blues, and Gospel music history with the Freedom Express.

The Freedom Express is made up of Tom and Randy Bevard from Iola, Kansas.  Tom and Randy have traveled several states for the past 16 years as an evangelistic team known as Freedom Ministries.  They have developed several styles of music to reach prisoners with the Gospel.  Both Tom and Randy were highly influenced by the late guitar player Don Hodgeman of Iola, Ks., and played some of Don’s favorites through the evening.

The evening followed a historical musical progression of jazz, blues, and gospel, from the 1940’s through the late 1970’s.  From the jazz greats to the blues of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, Tom and Randy utilized many styles.  From slide dobro guitar to hot electric lead, the audience enjoyed the tribute to those who have so greatly influenced American Music.
